A track record spanning the globe and multifaceted expertise

Mairée Uran Bidegain has more than two decades of experience in international investment law. She has participated in dozens of investment arbitrations in English, Spanish, and French. She has worked in the public and private sectors and international arbitration institutions and has academic and professional experience in France, the United States, and Latin America. She was designated by Colombia to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators.

Wide-ranging experience in investment arbitration across various roles, languages, and economic sectors

Mairée Uran Bidegain is an arbitrator and expert in international arbitration and public international law. Her experience includes arbitrations relating to renewable energy, natural resources, transportation, construction and infrastructure, airport, telecommunications, health, and pension systems sectors.

 

A Colombian, Uruguayan, and French national, throughout her career, Mairée has served in various roles in the field of investment arbitration.  Between 2018 and 2022, she was in charge of the defense and representation of the Republic of Chile in investment arbitration, and consultation and negotiation proceedings initiated by foreign investors against the State, and she led the Chilean delegation in multilateral negotiations where possible reforms to the investor-state dispute settlement system are being discussed.

 

Between 2011 and 2018, as team leader and senior legal counsel at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), she oversaw the administration of more than 60 cases, including arbitrations and annulments.

Mairée served as secretary of tribunals, ad hoc committees, and conciliation commissions in dozens of proceedings. She also served as an associate on the investment arbitration team of a renowned international law firm in Washington, D.C. from 2006 to 2011.

 

She has been an adjunct professor at American University, Washington College of Law and Georgetown University Law Center.  She is co-editor of the book, Building International Investment Law: The First 50 years of ICSID, among other publications, and is a regular speaker at specialized seminars and conferences.

 

She is a graduate of Panthéon-Assas University, Paris II, and holds a Master’s degree in international economic law from the University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne and, an LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania. She is licensed to practice law in New York.
