MAIRÉE URAN BIDEGAIN
Public International Law
Mairée Uran Bidegain is an independent arbitrator and public international law consultant with two decades of experience in international dispute resolution. She has worked across public and private sectors, international arbitral institutions, and academia, spanning France, the United States, and Latin America. Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, she was appointed by the Republic of Colombia to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators for the 2024–2030 term, in recognition of her expertise.
A Colombian, Uruguayan and French national, throughout her career, Mairée has served in various roles in the field of dispute resolution, including as arbitrator, counsel and secretary of arbitral tribunals, annulment committees and conciliation commissions.
She advises on public international law matters and is the chair of the Task Force on ISDS and Climate Change of the American Society of International Law.
From 2018 to 2023, she advised the Vice-Minister of Trade of Chile on foreign investment matters. During this period, she led Chile’s defense in investor-State disputes and represented the country in multilateral negotiations, including UNCITRAL’s Working Group III on ISDS Reform and ICSID rule amendments and participated in the negotiation of trade agreements.
Between 2011 and 2018, as ICSID Team Leader and Senior Legal Counsel, she oversaw the administration of more than 60 cases, including arbitrations and annulments, and served as secretary to tribunals, ad hoc committees and conciliation commissions in dozens of proceedings. Between 2006 and 2011, Mairée was an associate at the international arbitration practice of White&Case LLP, in Washington D.C.
She has taught as an adjunct professor at American University, Washington College of Law, Georgetown University Law Center. She co-edited Building International Investment Law: The First 50 Years of ICSID, among other publications, and frequently speaks at specialized conferences. She holds a law degree from Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II), a master’s in international Economic Law from Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris I), and an LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She is admitted to practice in New York.
